No is used directly before nouns to make them negative.
Not is used in other situations. Sometimes we shorten it to n’t.
- She has no money.
(noun/money) - There’s no address on the envelope.
Not in the winter.
(in is not a noun) - She does not want to go.
- They didn’t enjoy their holiday.
