No is used directly before nouns to make them negative.
None means zero, and is the pronoun of no. We use it to replace countable and uncountable nouns. It can also stand by itself.
- I’ve no time to waste.
(uncountable noun/time) - She told me that she has no friends.
(countable noun/friends) - There is no milk in the fridge.
- ‘Does she have any friends?’ ‘She has none.’
(none replaces the countable noun friends) - Where do you keep your sugar? There is none in the cupboard.
(none replaces the uncountable noun sugar) - ‘How much milk is in the fridge?’ ‘None.’
(none can stand alone)
