Common Mistakes

Last as an adjective means after everything else. Latest as an adjective means the most recent or the newest.

• I hope not the way they did the last time.
• We climbed those last few steps to the top of the mountain.
• The latest news isn’t good.
• Her dresses were always of the latest fashion.

Crowded is the adjective formed from the noun crowd.
Crowdy is a type of porridge from Scotland.

• The picnic area was already crowded with tourists.
• He chose a bar that wouldn't be too crowded at this time.
• She had a bowl of crowdy for her breakfast.
