What is an adverb?

Adverbs go with verbs. An adverb tells us more about a verb. They usually end in -ly.

  • The man spoke quickly.
    (spoke/verb – quickly/adverb)
  • He got out of bed slowly.
    (How did he get out of bed? Slowly.)
  • The men are carefully carrying the new window.
    (How did they carry the window? Carefully.)
