We use the present simple for things that happen all the time. We use the present continuous to talk about things that are not regular or are happening now.
- Every Tuesday I play football, but this Tuesday I am going swimming.
(present simple/regular/play football – present continuous/not regular/am going swimming) - I usually go to school by bus, but today I am walking.
(present simple/regular/go by bus – present continuous/happening now/am walking)
