With dates what we say and what we write are different.
We write . . .
‘The lightning struck on 16th April 2016,’
. . . but we say . . .
‘The lightning struck on the sixteenth of April 2000 and 16.’
‘The storm on 24th May 1965 was the worst ever.’
‘The storm on the twenty-fourth of May 1965 was the worst ever.’
Also, date first, then month, then year. It’s logical and clear.
16th April 2016 or 16/04/06
Remember: The sixteenth of April 2000 and 16.
