Tautology is the use of different words to say the same thing twice in the same statement.

  • Let’s meet at 4pm in the afternoon.
    (original/4pm – repetition/in the afternoon – 4pm is always in the afternoon)
    Let’s meet at 4pm.
  • This is a new innovation.
    (original/new – repetition/innovation – innovation is always new)
  • The reason is because he missed the bus.
    (original/reason – repetition/because – reason and because have the same meaning)
