Sentence Fragment

A sentence fragment is a group of words that look like a sentence but aren’t. It starts with a capital letter and ends with either a full stop, a question mark or an exclamation mark. However, it cannot be called a sentence because of one or more of the following:

  • It isn’t a complete thought.
  • It doesn’t contain a subject.
  • It doesn’t contain a verb.

As in these examples:

  • I will find that box. Wherever it is.
(complete sentence/complete thought) (sentence fragment/incomplete thought)

Correct would be:

  • I will find that box, wherever it is.
  • Everyone in the world.
    (subject/everyone – no verb)
