Reported Speech

Reported speech is used when we want to say what someone has said. There are two ways to do it.

Direct speech is when we use the person’s exact words in quotation marks.

  • ‘Please wait for me in reception’.
  • ‘I broke the window’.

Indirect Speech is when we change the person’s words into our own. No quotation marks are used.

  • The guide told us to wait in reception.
  • She said that she had broken the window.
