Its or it’s?

It is Gary’s website. It’s his website. It’s is not possessive.

A large man eating a very large hamburger. It’s obviously his hamburger.

It’s my burger. It is very big.

Its is a possessive pronoun. It shows possession. It doesn’t have an apostrophe. (‘)
It’s is the short form of it is. It is not a possessive pronoun. It does have an apostrophe. (‘)
• It’s very hot in July. OR It is very hot in July.
• I think it’s going to rain. OR I think it is going to rain.

To help you – when you write a sentence you should be able to use it’s or it is. If you can’t you should use its.
