Using the with regions

Using the with regions and leaving it out are both possible but have different meanings.

  • She is from south of Germany.
    (from an area outside of Germany and south. E.g. Austria)
  • She is from the south of Germany.
    (from an area inside Germany in the south. E.g. Munich)
