When we use more than one adjective before a noun, which are one idea, we connect them with a hyphen.
- He bought a first-class ticket to Liverpool.
(adjective/first – adjective/class – ticket/noun) - It was a three-hour wait, but I got what I wanted.
When the adjectives start with an adverb we don’t use a hyphen.
- She is an extremely brave young girl.
(adverb/extremely – adjective/brave) - It was a beautifully painted landscape of the English countryside.
(adverb/beautifully – adjective/painted)
Only when the adjectives start with the adverb well do we use a hyphen.
- He is a well-known singer in his country.
- She was well-trained and could do her job very well.
