A sentence fragment is a group of words that look like a sentence but aren’t. It starts with a capital letter and ends with either a full stop, a question mark or an exclamation mark. However, it cannot be called a sentence because of one or more of the following:
As in these examples:
- I will find that box. Wherever it is.
(complete sentence/complete thought) (sentence fragment/incomplete thought)
Correct would be:
- I will find that box, wherever it is.
- Everyone in the world.
(subject/everyone – no verb)
